MUSICA PER CINQUE

The woodwind quintet Musica per cinque was formed at the Prague Academy of Performing Arts in 1984. Its members – solo players of the best Czech Symphonies Orchestras - are holders of a number of awards from national and international music competitions.

In 1985 the quintet represented Czech concert art in Berlin and Dresden. One year later the ensemble participated in the „Bayreuth International Festival“ and won the „National Chamber Music Competition“ in Prague. In 1987 the ensemble was a finalist in the international competition of woodwind quintets, the "International Jeunesses Musicales Competition", in Belgrade.

The quintet pursues its concert activity both in the Czech Republic and abroad. The ensemble's latest performances include succesful participation in the music festival in Reims, organised by the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation, in the music festival „Mitte Europe“ or Bad Schandau „Musiksommer“.

The quintet participated on chamber cycles of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra Prague and the Janáèek Philharmonic Orchestra Ostrava. For contemporary music association „Pøítomnost“ made the quintet meny recordings of contemporary czech compositions.

The repertoire of „Musica per cinque“ is extensive. Very interesting are the combinations above all with next instruments – for example with the harp (L. Fišer), with the piano (W. A. Mozart, L. van Beethoven, F. Poulenc) or with the bassclarinet (L. Janáèek).
